Websites for builders and tradesmen in Surrey
Show what homeowners are told to check.
For builders, kitchen and bathroom fitters and other trades: recent jobs with before and after photos, your insurance and registrations, and how a job runs from quote to sign-off. Live in 7 days.
What your website needs to do.
Recent jobs, before and after
A gallery by type of job, from phone photos. Three to five recent jobs is enough to start, so keep your before shots.
Registrations people can check
Gas Safe, NICEIC or NAPIT and trade body logos, each linked to its register, and only the ones you hold. Homeowners are told to check membership rather than trust a logo.
How a job runs
Visit, written quote, contract, stage payments and sign-off, in plain steps. It answers the questions homeowners are told to ask before they ring.
Your waste carrier number
If you take away old kitchens, bathrooms or rubble, show your upper tier registration. Customers can be fined for giving waste to someone who isn’t registered.
A quote form with photos
Customers send photos and rough measurements, so you can price smaller jobs without a visit.
The company details you have to show
If you’re a limited company, your registered number and office go on the site. I put them in the footer.
What people check before they book.
Most of your customers will hear about you first, then look you up. These are the things they look for.
- Proof of public liability insurance
- Photos of recent jobs
- References from past customers
- A written quote showing what is and isn’t included
- A written contract with a payment schedule
- Which guarantees apply
- Trade body membership they can check for themselves
- That you’re local
Rules worth knowing.
Not legal advice, just the things that change what your website should say. Each one links to the official source.
Waste carrier registration
Carrying away old kitchens, sinks, baths or rubble counts as other people’s waste, which needs an upper tier registration, renewed every three years. Householders have to check who takes their waste away.
GOV.UK waste carrier registrationGas work
Gas work needs Gas Safe registration. Only list gas jobs, or show the Gas Safe logo, if you’re registered.
Health and Safety ExecutiveLimited company details
A limited company has to show its registered number, registered office address and where it’s registered on its website.
GOV.UKCancelling a quote accepted at home
When a customer agrees a job in their own home, they usually have 14 days to cancel. It belongs in your terms.
Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013Most builders and fitters start with a bigger site.
Most builders and fitters want a page for each kind of job and a gallery of recent work, which fits the bigger site. A small firm can start on four pages and move up later.

More pages: a gallery, your services, the areas you cover.

WhatsApp meQuestions builders and fitters ask me
Is Checkatrade worth it, or should I get my own website?
Plenty of trades do both. Directory membership can run to hundreds of pounds a year, and leads are often shared with other firms. Enquiries from your own site come only to you. Nobody can promise how many, but they’re yours.
I get all my work from word of mouth. Why bother?
Because people check you after a recommendation. Homeowners say they look for photos of your work and a simple website before they ring.
What if I don’t have good photos of my work?
Phone photos are fine. Start with three to five recent jobs, and get into the habit of taking a before shot.
Can I put the Gas Safe, FMB or TrustMark logo on my site?
Only if you’re registered or a member, under your registered trading name. I link each one to its register so customers can check.
What company details do I have to show?
Your business name, an address and an email, and your VAT number if you’re registered. Limited companies also show their registered number and office.
Do I need a waste carrier licence for old kitchens and rubble?
Yes, an upper tier registration, £191.02 for three years. Put the number on your site: it reassures customers, who can be fined for using someone who isn’t registered.
Can customers send photos for a quote?
Yes. The quote form add-on lets them send photos and measurements, so you can price smaller jobs without a visit.
Can I show my Checkatrade and Google reviews?
Yes, real ones, linked to where they came from. Hiding genuine bad reviews, or showing them in a misleading way, breaks the rules on reviews.
